OT and Era Presentations

Over the course of the Era presentations it was really interesting to see how the profession of occupational therapy developed over time. And it was also really interesting to see how the events during that time period really shaped how occupational therapists practiced. For example, in the group that did the most recent time period, it really interested me to see those survivors of the Boston Marathon tragedy and how their OT was able to work with them while coping with that tragedy. I feel that one of the best things bout OT is being able to adapt your treatments to what your patients need at that time, and this is a great example of that. I also feel that by learning the history of the profession, and understanding the roots and values of where this profession started, it gives us a better understanding of what occupational therapy is and how to share those values with other people.

  1. I was deeply touched by the story of Jessica and Patrick, the then-newlywed couple who survived the Boston Marathon bombing. If you're on Instagram, you can follow their service dog Rescue @RescueBoston. They have a children's book coming out this spring about the bond between Rescue and Jessica :)
